Alexander Kremer was born in 1958 in St. Petersburg into a family of artists. His father, a famous Russian artist Mark Kremer, was his first teacher and support. Alexander studied in one of the world’s leading fine arts academies founded by Catherine the Great in 1757. Kremer is hailed as an important figure in contemporary Russian realism who provides a bridge from contemporary realism to 19th century European and Russian art. Kremer’s art preserves this rich painting tradition for the next generations of Russian artists. Kremer’s embracing of Russia’s artistic past has made him one of the country’s leading and most-collected contemporary painters.
